Joyce Meyer’s Battlefield of the Mind- Devotional says that praise is not just to boost God’s ego.  When we praise God, we keep the lines of communication between us and God steady, and that steadiness keeps His word close to our hearts.  With the word of God within us, we are equipped to fight the spiritual battle that we are confronted with on a daily basis.

What is a spiritual battle?  Picture the cartoons you saw as a child… a cartoon pic of a person, who has a little red devil floating above their head on one side that’s telling them to do the bad, more gratifying things, and a cute little angel above their head on the other side saying, “No no no!”

Seems pretty straight forward.  Just look at them when they’re talking, right?  If a little red devil is telling you to do something, then don’t do it.  If a cute little cherub is telling you to do (or not do) something, then do it (or don’t do it).  The problem is that we can’t see them, so we don’t know who is telling us what.  Joyce Meyer explains that God’s word is our weapon.  Knowing His word helps us to figure out who is saying what.   Then we can act with confidence.

Great plan, but I immediately thought about how looooong The Bible is.  Where to start?

Instead of starting in Genesis and working my way forward, I’m just going to open the book up to a random page and read a chapter a day.  Then try to apply that chapter to 2012.  I have a feeling I will be surprised at how much I retain.

Have a great day!

Heather
